Dr. RAMADAS MAGANTI

Shri Dhanwantry Ayurvedic College & Hospital (SDACH) was started in the year 1975 with the Ayurveda Acharya course run by the All India Vidyapeeth, New Delhi. Due to the untiring efforts of the Shri Dhanwantry Educational Society (Regd.), a BAMS (six years) course was started in 1979, with affiliation from the Punjab State Faculty of Ayurveda & Unani System of Medicine.

The college in Chandigarh is situated on a sprawling 4-acre campus with modern buildings and state-of-the-art equipment. It is also unique in having an MoU with Dabur India Limited since 2003 which has helped it to upgrade and modernize all facilities in the College and Hospital.

SDACH hospital in the heart of Chandigarh and known to public for more than 46 years with patients coming from all parts of Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. The hospital also has inpatient facility and patients are admitted for chronic ailments like skin diseases, asthma, low back pain etc. Students are able to gain good clinical experience and hands-on training which is the key to becoming good clinicians and practitioners.

The institution has a full-fledged teaching faculty with vast teaching experience and is able to constantly guide and nurture outstanding students. More than 700 graduates have successfully completed their graduation and have settled in various government positions and as practitioners. The infrastructure fully meets or exceeds the standard regulations of CCIM, the apex body regulating ayurvedic education in the country. All classrooms are ICT enabled and well furnished. Well equipped laboratories and a library with a good collection of books also help provide a great learning experience.

SDACH management is strongly committed to promote quality Ayurvedic education and to serve public through Ayurvedic medicine. From its inception, Sri Dhanwantry Educational Society is constantly upgrading the facilities in the campus. Currently the infrastructure in the campus is upgraded for 100 BAMS seats and for post-graduate teaching in all departments. Management is committed to run the college and hospital on a no profit and no loss basis and is constantly upgrading all facilities in the institution.

Sanskrit language forms the basis for all Indian sciences. Majority of the ayurvedic classics are in Sanskrit. Emphasis is being given to improve the skills by conducting periodical spoken Sanskrit classes and by imparting Sanskrit along with samhita patana. In recent times, Sanskrit has become increasingly popular the world over and is now being taught to large number of students in Germany, UK and USA. Our institution also lays emphasis on student discipline and extra-curricular activities.

Samhita parayana (regular chanting of ancient classical treatise Ashtanga Hridaya) is the real strength of ancient ayurvedic education. Even in this century, this way of education is prevailing in Kerala. Considering its importance this ancient art is kept alive at the Shri Dhanwantry Ayurvedic College & Hospital.

Various activities like industrial internship, knowledge about High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and other pharmacognostic techniques and similar value added courses make our students fully prepared to undertake a variety of job responsibilities in the world of ayurveda.

The entire essence of education at Shri Dhanwantry is to transform our students into complete doctors who can understand duties and responsibilities of their profession both towards the patient and the larger society. They are encouraged and equipped to become sincere ayurvedic doctors who will be able to heal and cure their patients while earning a good living through the practice of this ancient science of healing.
